Safe and Considerate Driving (SCD)
Only people who the police have offered a Safe and Considerate Driving (SCD) course can complete this course.
The course costs £175 and lasts for one day.
If the police have offered you a place, you can book by calling 01522 212 314 from 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday, or 8.30am to 4.30pm on Friday.
The course is delivered in two parts:
- AM: a 3-hour theory completed in a classroom.
- PM: a 4-hour practical (in-car) completed on-road with an approved driving instructor and maximum on-road client trainer ratio of 2:1.
We recommend arriving 15 minutes early for your course, as late attendees will be refused entry.
You must bring your current valid driving licence and any prescribed vision aids you require to drive.
Course overview
This course increases attendees' awareness and understanding of:
- the causes and negative consequences of risky and inconsiderate driving.
- the importance of concentration, observation, anticipation and allowing adequate space and time.
- the reasons why their own driving may be unsafe or inconsiderate.
We will not allow you to join a course if you:
- are late.
- are unable to show the trainer your valid photocard driving licence (or paper licence supported by an acceptable photographic ID).
- bring an interpreter (if required) not named on your booking (or they do not have an acceptable photographic ID).
