A16 Marsh Lane Roundabout and Boston Active Travel Improvements
The Marsh Lane Roundabout and Boston Active Travel ‘Levelling Up’ improvement projects included:
- Construction of an additional northbound lane to unlock space for a dedicated right-turn lane for people travelling north from the A16 into Marsh Lane.
- Creating a dedicated left-turn lane for those travelling south from Marsh Lane onto the A16.
- Creating a three-quarter mile active travel route in the Wyberton Low Road area of Boston, including new shared footways/cycleways; a new toucan crossing on the A16 and Marsh Lane; and an updated layout on Wyberton Low Road (north of the crossroads with Marsh Lane) to allow cyclists to pass through the island arrangement.

Cost and funding
The project cost was £5.7 million, which was funded by a portion of the £20m in ‘Levelling Up’ funding awarded to the county council in October 2021.
Timeline
- June 2021: Funding bid submitted to government
- October 2021: £20 million in ‘Levelling Up’ funding granted to Lincolnshire
- March 2022: Feasibility reports for each project complete
- September 2022: Pre-works begin, including vegetation clearance, ground investigations and drainage surveys
- May 2023: Construction for both projects begins
- November 2023: Marsh Lane roundabout improvements complete
- December 2023: Boston Active Travel improvements complete
