A16/A151 Springfield Roundabout Improvements
The Springfield Roundabout ‘Levelling Up’ improvement project in Spalding included:
- increasing the size of the roundabout
- adding additional entry and exit lanes on the A16
- improving entry and exit lanes on the A151
- installing new drainage system, road surfacing, signage and street lighting columns
Aims and benefits
- reduce congestion and improve journey times on the A16
- create more capacity on A16 for agri-food sector delivery vehicles
- future-proof Springfield Roundabout for future A16 upgrades
Cost and funding
The project cost was £8.4m, which was funded by a portion of the £20m in ‘Levelling Up’ funding awarded to the county council in October 2021.
Timeline
- June 2021: Funding bid submitted to government
- October 2021: £20 million in ‘Levelling Up’ funding granted to Lincolnshire
- March 2022: Feasibility reports for each project complete
- September 2022: Pre-works begin, including vegetation clearance, ground investigations and drainage surveys
- September 2023: Construction begins
- November 2024: Project complete
