- enable education professionals to raise awareness of child exploitation
- enable education professionals to support and signpost children and young people to seek help
- Service Description
-
Catch On is a free educational resource about child exploitation aimed at pupils in years 7 and 8 (aged 11 to 13). It also has additional activities for pupils with special educational needs.
The programme contains a suite of options for a single lesson or series of lessons. These lessons explore the topic of grooming and exploitation. Materials include:
- lesson slides with embedded links and videos
- comprehensive lesson plan guidance with photocopiable activity sheets
- a handbook for parents and professionals
The aim is to:
- make children aware of child exploitation
- empower them to recognise the warning signs
- ensure they know where to go for help if they or their friends are targeted
The teaching materials for Catch On include:
- the teachers’ pack, which is designed to give teachers all the information they need to prepare for, and confidently teach, the Catch On lesson
- a video playlist with all the videos needed to deliver the lesson
- lesson slides (general) with embedded links and videos for teachers to deliver the lesson
- lesson slides (SEND) with embedded links and videos for teachers to deliver lessons designed for children and young people with special educational needs
- a worksheets pack, containing the photocopiable worksheets required to complete activities in the lesson plan
Catch On also includes the parents’ pack. This is a handbook for parents and wider professionals. It provides key information on grooming and exploitation, and how to protect and safeguard children and young people.
The resource consists of three young people’s stories - all based on our frontline experience - and you can choose to follow the stories in any order. Each story has an opening activity, a video, and follow-on activities to be used at the teacher’s discretion to suit the abilities and sensitivities within the class.
The Catch On resources support the child exploitation (CE) lesson for key stage 3 with links to curriculum outcomes from the PSHE association programme of study for PSHE education (key stages 1 to 5).
