The A15 Sleaford Road is set to close for 14 weekends starting in September to finish the new Lincoln Eastern Bypass roundabout.

Update: Please note that due to inclement weather over the past two weeks, the road closure on the A15 Sleaford Road will be extended for an extra three days.

The road is now expected to open at 6am on Monday 28 October.

The diversion route will be through Waddington via the A607 Lincoln Road, then on to the B1178 White Lane/Tower Lane at Harmston, and vice versa.

Karen Cassar, Assistant Director Highways, said: "Wet weather leading up to this extended closure delayed the final earthworks slightly. This then had a knock-on effect on the rest of the works.

"As a result, Sleaford Road won't be ready to open on Friday morning and will remain closed for an extra three extra days while the team finishes installing kerbing and laying tarmac.

"The good news is that, once it's re-opened next Monday, people will be able to drive on the new roundabout.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this causes and want to thank everyone for their continued patience while we continue building Lincoln's new eastern bypass."

The diversion route for the closure will be via A607 Lincoln Road to B1178 White Lane/Tower Lane, and vice versa.

No vehicular through traffic will be allowed to pass through the works while underway, including emergency service vehicles.

Karen Cassar, Assistant Director Highways, said: "We're set to finish construction of the new Lincoln Road roundabout later this month, which is when the team will be concentrating on getting the one at Sleaford Road built.

"This next series of weekend closures will allow us the time needed to carry out final earthworks, kerbing and street lighting, ahead of laying tarmac for the new Sleaford Road roundabout.

"Similar to the Lincoln Road works, an extended weekend closure will also be needed at some point, most likely in October. However, the specific dates will depend on the how the works progress over the first few weekends. As soon as we have these confirmed, we will let people know.

"We know these closures will undoubtedly cause some disruption for people traveling in and around Lincolnshire, but they are a necessary part of building such a massive piece of infrastructure.

"We want to assure people that everything will be done to keep disruption to a minimum, including doing our best to finish the works early so that we don't need to use all of the weekend closures we've booked.

"Elsewhere on site, work is progressing really well and project team is focussing all their efforts on getting the new road fully built and opened next spring."
