Short Ferry Bridge traffic lights to be refurbished

Ageing traffic signals at Short Ferry Bridge, Short Ferry Road, Fiskerton, are set to be replaced.

Works are due to begin on Monday 28 October and will see the current system replaced with new energy efficient equipment.

During the works, the road will remain open, but two-way temporary traffic lights will be in place.

The project is expected to be completed by Friday 22 November, subject to favourable weather.

Anthony Gent, principal engineer – traffic signals, said: "The existing equipment is coming to the end of its life and it's important that we get it replaced to avoid it failing.

"One of the benefits of the new signals is that they are much more energy efficient, which will help reduce our carbon footprint.

"We are also taking the opportunity to install an uninterrupted power supply unit that will ensure the signals stay operational for up to 10 hours in the event of a power failure.

"The road will remain open during the works, so that should help minimise the disruption.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would advise motorists to use alternative routes where possible."
