Roadworks

The £1.2 million improvement project will start on Monday 23 August and last up to eleven weeks.

A16 Spalding Roundabout resurfacing work to finish next spring - 30/11/2021

The remaining improvement works to the A16 Spalding Roundabout will be completed next spring.

Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said: “We’ve rebuilt the worst sections of the A16 Spalding Roundabout early last week. However, due to the cold, wet weather we had towards the end of last week and will have over the coming months, we’ll be returning next spring to finish the works when the weather is warmer and better for laying new road surfacing.

“I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we work to improve this key section of the A16.”

Improvement works to the A16 Spalding Roundabout start on Monday 22 November for up to two weeks - 17/11/2021

During the works, a night-time road closure will be in place from 7pm to 6am at the roundabout, weekday evenings only.

At these times, either a single-leg roundabout closure or full roundabout closure will be in place as required (with temporary signals in use during single-leg closures).

The following diversion routes will be in use during the night works:

  • B1173/A1175 diversion route via B1173-B1172 (Spalding Common) / A1175, and vice versa
  • A16 North diversion route: A151 (Bourne Road, Dozen's Bank, Spalding Road) / A15 (Bourne Road) / A1175, and vice versa
  • A16 South diversion route via A47 / A15 / A1175, and vice versa

Improvement works to the A1175 Uffington Road near Stamford will now take place starting Monday 1 November for up to five evenings - 27/10/2021

During the works, a night-time road closure will be in place from 8pm to 6am between the A16 layby to just past the Uffington Road junction, as well as near the left-turn lane.

The following diversion routes will be in use during the night works:

  • A1175 diversion route: via A1175 (Main Road) / A1175-A15-B1524 roundabout / A15 to Bourne Road roundabout / A151 Raymond Mays Way / A6121 / Uffington Road, and vice versa
  • Newstead Lane diversion route: via Uffington Road / A6121 (Ryhall Road) / Belmesthorpe-Newstead Lane / Uffington Road, and vice versa

Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said: "Since starting in late August, we've fully rebuilt sections of the B1040 Thorney Road and the A16 Crowland and Cowbit roundabouts.

"However, unexpected wet weather over the past couple of months has meant we've had to reschedule the final two phases of this scheme to fit around other essential works on the road network.

"As a result, we'll now be rebuilding a section of Uffington Road in Stamford overnight next week.  In addition, once a start date for the A16 Spalding Roundabout works has been confirmed with the contractor, we'll share it widely so people can plan their journeys accordingly."

"As a result, we'll be rebuilding them starting in late August, along with also reconstructing sections of Thorney Road, Moulton Chapel Road and Uffington Road.

"By the end of this massive improvement project, over 10,000 hours will have been spent on the works, with over 6,000 tonnes of new tarmac laid.

"These works will inevitably cause some disruption, but we'll be doing everything we can to keep this to a minimum including carrying most of the works out overnight when there are fewer people on the roads.

"We'll also be maintaining access for residents and emergency services throughout the works when and where we can do so safely.

"I want to thank everyone in advance for bearing with us while we carry out these essential repairs to the A16 near Spalding, Cowbit, Crowland and Stamford."
