Pelham Bridge works remain on track

Maintenance started on Lincoln's Pelham Bridge on Monday 7 June; this is how work has progressed this week.

This week, we've continued to blast out the pockets for the safety barrier posts. Work on this will continue through the weekend and hopefully finishing up early next week.

We've already started setting the new cradles for the barrier in position using flowable concrete.

The grit blasting has also continued, which helps clear any excess material off the pathways and deck, ready for re-waterproofing.

Crews are also using a fine miller on the deck which helps to remove any stubborn pieces and makes the surface even.

We're continuing to break out any pieces of concrete which needs repairing to ensure that the deck is in good condition before it is waterproofed next week.

The drainage gullies on the bridge deck have also been jetted out.

Next week the waterproofing itself will begin!

This is a protective layer which is sprayed onto the surface to protect the concrete and reinforcement from water.

All the work we've done so far to prep the deck for this was very important to ensure we have a smooth surface; the waterproofing cannot have any holes in it.

We'll also continue to install the cradles for the new safety barrier and clean up any concrete once the hydrodemolition has finished.

On the southbound diversion route, there is currently a lane closure on Newland for building works, on the corner of Carholme Road.

From 1 July, that lane closure will be lifted during peak times, 6am to 9.30am, and then from 3pm to 7pm.

All traffic will still have to turn left off Newland at this junction, with traffic at peak times encouraged to use both lanes to turn left; the left-lane being for Brayford Way and University Bridge (Pelham Bridge diversion), and the right-lane the A57 Carholme Road.

Thank you for bearing with us whilst the bridge is closed. Works are progressing well and on programme for planned completion date.
