Don't let Christmas clutter cause chaos!

Graphice about not drinking and cooking at Christmas.

Decorations, trees and lights are going up across Lincolnshire! With loads of presents, food and parcels in to our homes, Fire and Rescue are warning people not to let the clutter cause a fire risk.

Dan Moss, Area Manager for Prevention and Protection at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: "At this time of year, our homes can start to become hazardous if we're not careful! Cooking fires are the most common type of house fire we see – especially now we are all spending more time at home.

"Often this can be items that have caught fire from being on or near a hob. But the key kitchen advice is not to leave your cooking unattended so you can always keep an eye on what's going on – whether you're roasting a turkey, boiling your brussels, or baking mince pies!

"With the temperatures falling too, be careful when you're heating your home and keep all those festive decorations away from your heaters and fires.

"Lastly, it's essential that you can get out of your house if there was a fire at any time of day and night. Make sure your smoke alarms are working and that your doorways, windows and exits aren't blocked by anything – including boxes, presents or Christmas trees."

If you're visiting family or friends during the relaxing of Covid-19 restrictions this year, and are concerned they are more at risk of having a fire, have a look at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue's SHERMAN checklist and see if they are eligible for a Safe and Well check.
