Corringham Road / Thorndike Way junction improvements reach midway point

Diversion route Corringham Road

Works to install new traffic lights and replace the drainage system at the Corringham Road/Thorndike Way junction are now more than halfway complete.

Cllr Clio Perraton-Williams, county councillor for Scotter Rural and executive support councillor for highways, said: "Our improvements at the Corringham Road/Thorndike Way junction are going well. In fact, we've just passed the project's midway point.

"Since starting in September, the team has removed over half a mile of old safety barriers, drainage and kerbs, along with digging up over 150 tonnes of old road to make way for new.

"And while the road is dug up, we've also had BT on site to divert their underground cables so we can build the additional left-turn lane out of Corringham Road.

"Now that we've passed the halfway point, one of the next steps is to lay new road surfacing to sections of Corringham Road and Thorndike Way, which will involve three evenings of road closures next week."

Works to resurface Corringham Road (including its junction with Thorndike Way) will start on Wednesday 11 November, with a full road closure in place from 8pm to 6am for three consecutive evenings (subject to suitable weather).

The diversion route will be via the B1433 Corringham Road, B1433 Spital Hill, A159 North Street, A159 Trinity Street and A631 Thorndike Way, and vice versa.

Cllr Clio Perraton-Williams continued: "In addition to rebuilding the roads here, the team will be focusing on the new traffic signal system over the next month and a half, including installing wiring, setting up the system and getting the new signal heads themselves into place.

"This will include installing half a mile of new underground ducting for the new traffic signal system and fifteen new signal heads.

"Once we're finished in December, not only will traveling in and around Gainsborough be much safer, but this key junction will also be able to cope with future growth in the surrounding area."

The £1.5m scheme is being jointly funded by LCC, West Lindsey District Council and Greater Lincolnshire LEP.
