Clumps of burnt plastic ‘nurdles’ were washed ashore following an incident in the North Sea in March.

Teams from East Lindsey District Council have been cleaning up the plastic pellets from the beach for the past week since they were first spotted on the county’s coast on 17 March.

So far, over 12,000kgs of this material have been collected and brought to Lincolnshire County Council’s waste transfer station in Louth. Here, it will be bulked up and sent for safe disposal via energy from waste.

Thanks to reports from members of the public, the clean-up operation has been able to focus on the areas worst affected and quickly remove the plastic pollution from the shoreline. This work continues as more pollutants continue to wash up.

If you see 'nurdles' on the beach:

North Norfolk District Council is co-ordinating nurdle reports for the whole of the east coast.

Please note that while crews focus on the beaches, there may be some delays to litter bin collections and street cleaning in other areas of East Lindsey. Thank you for your patience.
