South Kesteven District Council’s highway works came to a successful end on Tuesday 17 December.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “I’m really happy to say that the works we’ve been carrying out on behalf of South Kesteven District Council are now finished and that all of the traffic management is now gone.
“Like the Market Place project earlier this year, I know this scheme has been a major headache for businesses and residents in Grantham, so I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their patience during the works.”
Below are some facts and figures about the project:
- Over 15,000 hours spent working on Station Approach
- Over 1,500 tonnes of road building material used
- Over 200 metres of new kerbing, plus 38 new quadrant kerbs (‘cheeses’)
- 45 metres of new underground traffic signal ducts installed
- 36 new traffic signal poles installed
The following changes were carried out as part of the South Kesteven District Council-funded works:
- Resurfacing and carrying out pedestrian facility upgrades at Harlaxton Road, Wharf Road, Westgate and Sankt Augustin Way
- Upgrading the existing traffic signals
- Jet-washing the footpath on the north side of Wharf Road onto the southernmost part of Westgate
Cllr Davies said: “We’re also still on track for having our Dysart Road improvements finished ahead of Christmas as planned. As of now, we’re hoping to have these works compete by this Friday.”
South Kesteven District Council's Station Approach project was fully funded by a portion of the £4.1 million of Grantham Future High Street Fund funding awarded to the South Kesteven District Council in 2020 by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.
