Works to reconstruct York Road and Broadway will start in early January.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “I’m really happy to announce that we’ll be fully rebuilding York Road and Broadway in Sutton on Sea early next year, as both are showing signs of wear. This project will be no small feat. In fact, it will involve using over 3,500 tonnes of material to reconstruct both roads from their foundations up.
“This marks the third and final phase of our Coastal Carriageway improvement scheme, which also includes upgrades to Old Roman Bank between Sandilands and Chapel St Leonards, and the A1104 from Maltby le Marsh to Mablethorpe.
“Even though the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority is still being established, we’re already reaping the rewards of our devolution deal, with all three projects being funded by a portion of the capital funding allocated to the county council.”
Cllr Colin Matthews, county councillor for Alford and Sutton, said: “I’ve been working hard to get these improvements to Broadway and York Road made over the past six years, so I’m really happy to see them finally coming to fruition.
“Both roads were last surfaced in the 1930s using concrete slabs from Brickyard Lane Cement Works in Sutton on Sea. These have lasted decades, but they’re now starting to fail and the vibrations from passing traffic are causing a headache for residents. That’s why our highways team will be laying a brand-new, high-quality, all-tarmac road – to eliminate the vibrations while ensuring both roads last for decades more.
“They’ll also be widening the footway on Broadway to allow more space for pedestrians and installing a brand-new drainage system on both roads while on-site.”

Cllr Davies added: “Because the current carriageway is made of concrete, it needs to be broken apart and taken away before we can rebuild the road. This means residents are likely to experience more noise and vibration than normal. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable but we’ll be doing everything we can to minimise disruption, including not carrying noisy works out after 5pm and also making sure access is maintained for residents and emergency vehicles.
“In the meantime, I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone in advance for their patience."
This £1 million project is being funded by a portion of the £20 million capital funding allocated to the county council as part of the Greater Lincolnshire Combined County Authority devolution deal.
