Sincil Bank rejuvenation project passes its midway point

Sincil bank

Works to improve residents’ quality of life are more than halfway finished.

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: "We’ve officially passed the midway point of our Sincil Bank improvement works.

"Since starting on-site in September, the team’s spent over 2,400 hours on the project with the primary focus on footway resurfacing and buildouts construction. We’ve also laid just a quarter mile of new kerbing and over a quarter mile of new footpath so far.”

Below are some additional facts and figures about the project to date:

  • Over 200 tonnes of footway building material used
  • Five new drainage gulleys, along with new drainage connections
  • Six roadside buildouts completed to create space for planting

Additional works to update the area’s aesthetic, including gateway features, will be added to the works programme in the coming months.

Cllr Davies added: "The team has been working incredibly hard over the past two and a half months, and we’re still on track for having this very important scheme wrapped up early next year.

“When finished, this joint project between us and City of Lincoln Council will help tackle accessibility and rat-running issues within Sincil Bank, hopefully leading to a better quality of life for residents while also contributing to the wider development of central Lincoln.”

A series of phased road closures will be in place along Sincil Bank for the rest of the works. Specific dates and locations will be shared with those directly affected via the scheme contractor and on-street signage. Access will be maintained for residents and businesses throughout the works.

City of Lincoln Council Leader, Councillor Naomi Tweddle, said: “It’s great to see works progressing in the Sincil Bank area to improve the urban realm.

“A lot was achieved in October, with new kerbs, footways and pedestrian crossings being installed, and more improvements to be made before Christmas.

“As a project supported by the Be Lincoln Town Deal, urban regeneration is a priority, and the Sincil Bank project helps to enhance the vibrancy of central Lincoln.

“Our aim is to enhance the Sincil Bank area and support the county council's initiatives in that community. We look forward to seeing the completed project and how it improves the area for residents and local businesses.”

The project will cost £3 million and is being funded by a portion of the £19 million of Lincoln Town Deal funding awarded to the City of Lincoln in 2020 by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.
