Tackling antisocial behaviour

18 – 24 November is ASB Awareness Week, and residents affected by antisocial behaviour (ASB) are being reminded that help that is available.

When someone’s quality of life is affected by the actions of other people in the community, this is antisocial behaviour. Incidents can range from something that is a mild annoyance to something that causes real fear.

ASB Awareness Week encourages communities to take a stand against ASB and highlights the actions that can be taken by those experiencing it. The initiative is organised by Resolve, the UK’s leading ASB and community safety organisation.

Cllr Mrs Patricia Bradwell OBE, executive councillor for community safety, said: “Although Lincolnshire is a safe place to live, we know that, at times, antisocial behaviour can affect residents’ quality of life. So earlier this year, the county council committed an additional £1m towards efforts to reduce ASB in our communities.

“Local agencies have a number of tools and powers to deal with the various types of ASB, ranging from an official letter up to court action. The police have certain responsibilities, whereas your local district council and housing providers will have others.

“Help is also available through the Antisocial Behaviour Case Review process. This is designed for victims of persistent antisocial behaviour, enabling them to ask their local district council to instigate a review of the actions local agencies have taken to resolve their concerns and explore whether anything else can be done to find a solution to the ongoing ASB.

“So, if you are a victim of antisocial behaviour, please don’t suffer in silence. You are not alone. There are agencies here to help, and they will do all they can to resolve any issues you’re facing.”
