Grantham Southern Relief Road update – A1 contraflow now in place

Grantham Southern Relief Road

As part of the new bridged junction's construction, the northbound lanes of the A1, between Harlaxton and Little Ponton, are now temporarily diverted to a new section of A1 carriageway.

What we achieved in February

  • Opened the new, widened section of the A1 to traffic as part of traffic switchover, allowing for works to the first of the new bridged junction
  • Constructed a working platform and guidewall for the piling rig to be used for the new bridge's abutments
  • Commenced Anglian Water diversion
  • Repaired internal haul roads damaged by severe weather over recent months
  • Started vegetation clearance and carry out final archaeological works for Phase Three

What's happening in March

  • Begin piling works to the western half of the new bridge's underpass
  • Re-start earthworks to the western and eastern roundabout and slip roads, including lime modification, following recent weather
  • Complete Anglian Water diversion
  • Carry out piling works adjacent to the A1's northbound carriageway
  • Continued vegetation clearance and carry out final archaeological works for Phase Three

Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures

  • Full night-time lane closure on the northbound A1 between Little Ponton and Harlaxton from Sunday 29 March to Monday 6 April from 8pm to 6am
    • Diversion route via A606 at Stamford to A607 to A1 at Harlaxton

Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures

  • 50mph speed limit and narrow lanes on the A1 between Harlaxton to Little Ponton
