Construction of the new A1500 puffin crossing came to an end on 6th November.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “Today marks another milestone for our Community Crossings Initiative with the completion of this new pedestrian crossing in Sturton by Stow, following our recent work in Holbeach.
“This initiative illustrates how councillors are truly serving their communities. These new crossings will significantly improve safety and enhance the quality of life for residents, making it easier for everyone to travel on foot.”
Cllr Richard Butroid, county councillor for Gainsborough Rural South, said: “With the A1500 splitting Sturton by Stow in half, schoolchildren and residents have had to cross this busy road without a proper crossing to reach the village’s various facilities.
“After twenty years of requests, I’m thrilled to announce that the new crossing is now open. This will provide a safe passage for locals, and I anticipate that traffic through the village will slow down, further enhancing safety for everyone.
“I want to thank each person who’s helped make this important piece of infrastructure a reality.”
This project is part of the ongoing Community Crossing Initiative, which will see over ten pedestrian crossings built throughout the county.
The initiative will cost £3.8 million, with £1.5 million earmarked by Executive in 2023 and the remaining coming from a combination of additional county council funding and developer contributions.
