Closure of section of Lincoln Eastern Bypass

The flooding on the LEB

The northbound section of the Lincoln Eastern Bypass, between Greetwell Road and Wragby Road, is currently closed due to flooding and standing water under the Hawthorn Road footbridge.

Update: The road has now reopened.

Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said: “A pump failure, combined with recent heavy rainfall, has led to the attenuation pond beside this section of the bypass filling up higher than it should. This has led to our highway drainage blocking up since there’s nowhere for the water to go.

“Our team is currently on-site and working as fast as they can to get this section of the bypass back open. However, there’s a lot of water to move from the pond before the road will clear, so we might not have the road re-opened until tomorrow.

“In the meantime, we’re asking people to leave extra time for their journeys around this area of Lincoln.”

The diversion route for the closed section of the northbound bypass between Greetwell Road and Wragby Road is via Greetwell Road / Outer Circle Road / Wragby Road-Bunkers Hill.
