Works to improve the Old Roman Bank, between Sandilands and Chapel St Leonards, started today.
UPDATE: Old Roman Bank improvement additional earthworks - 27/09/2024
The C541 road from Sea Lane and Masons Close will be closed until 17.00 this Saturday
In light of recent heavy rainfall, and to maintain the schedule of works planned along Old Roman Bank, LCC is implementing an additional day of road closure in the area.
Prior to installing passing places and road widening on a section of the popular coastal route, essential additional earthworks will be happening tomorrow (Saturday, September 28).
The nature of the work means that the road between Sea Lane and Masons Close will remain closed until 17.00. On-site works will run from 07.30 to 17.00.
The road will re-open from 17.00 on Saturday, September 28.
Improvements to Old Roman Bank now underway - 16/09/2024
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “We’ve officially broken ground on this six-month scheme to improve five and a half miles of Old Roman Bank between Sandilands and Chapel St Leonards.
“This will be a massive project that will see this full stretch of road completely rebuilt from the ground up, along with some footway surfacing in Sandilands, road widening, the construction of new passing bays and the installation of some new street lights.”
As part of the works, a series of phased daytime road closures will be in place from 7am to 7pm, weekdays only. Phased night-time road closures will also be used as needed at the following four areas:
- Huttoft Beach/Sea Lane junction, 7pm to 7am
- Chapel Point/North Sea Observatory Car Park access, 6pm to midnight
- Two Anderby Creek/Sea Road junctions, 7pm to 7am
Please note that we will be carrying out works in two areas simultaneously during the project: one starting at the Sandilands end of the works on Monday 16 September, moving south towards Anderby Creek; and the second starting south of Anderby Creek on Wednesday 2 October, moving towards Chapel St Leonards.
The diversion route for the works is via A52 / Skegness Road / St Leonards Drive, and vice versa. The diversion also includes Rectory Road and Sea Road through Anderby for access to and from Anderby Creek.
Cllr Davies added: “We’ll be doing all we can to carry this scheme out as quickly and efficiently as possible, including planning the works to take place outside of the summer holidays to ensure fewer people are affected by the works.
"We’ll also be keeping pedestrian footways open to the public; having gatemen present at both ends of any closures to assist with access and egress; and maintaining access for residents and emergency services throughout the project as far as reasonably practicable.”
A dedicated public liaison officer will be available to answer questions and keep those affected up-to-date. Her name is Sophie Ward-Owen, and she can be reached on 07495 916383 or sophie.ward-owen@owen-partners.co.uk.
