Fire safety can be a concern for everyone, but now there are lots of ways to check your home is as safe as possible.
You can carry out a short online assessment to check key risks in your home, by yourself at any time. The tool takes you through your home one room at a time helping you spot potential fire risks, offering tips and advice on the steps you can take to reduce those risks.
Once you have completed your check, you will receive a personalised fire safety action plan to help keep you and your household safe from fire.
Dan Moss, area manager for prevention and protection, said: “Based on the answers you have given we may ask to contact you to arrange for one of our friendly Fire Safety Advocates to visit you. This is completely optional but could help give you peace of mind. Similarly, if you’re at higher risk of having a fire or not being able to evacuate, with your permission, another professional might refer you to us, to come and visit you at home.”
Faith Roe from Lincoln (pictured) had a home fire safety check recently. She said: “The visit turned out to be really good, in fact it was a lot more helpful than I expected it to be.
“The fire safety advocate was so friendly, he highlighted other things, like the fact the rugs I have down which could be a trip hazard. But he gave a general guide on electrical safety and also safety in the kitchen.
“He even replaced my older smoke alarms and made sure they were in the right place for my home. I was left feeling far more secure about the safety of my home after the visit.”
