The district council-funded scheme will start in mid-August.
Update on Station Approach works Phase 5 - 18/11/2024
Please note that Phase 5 of the Station Approach works will begin on the evening of Monday 25 November until early December. This work will involve resurfacing the full junction under the following traffic management:
- Full night-time closures affecting the entire Station Approach junction will be in place 25-29 November and 2-6 December from 7pm to 6am (weekday evenings only)
- Diversion route via the B1174 High Street and London Road / Tollemache Road / A1 / Harlaxton Road, and vice versa
- All islands at the junction will remain coned off during Phase 5, with pedestrian diversions in place. The closure of the right-hand lane from Westgate into Sankt Augustin Way will also remain in place.
Please note the evenings of 9-13 December are being held in reserve if needed due to inclement weather.
Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said: “We’ve been able to move the start of the final phase of South Kesteven District Council’s Station Approach works forward, which means we have more flexibility to complete the works sooner.
“This is because the weather will likely be warmer in late November compared to mid-December, meaning the temperatures will be more conducive to laying road surfacing.
“We still expect to have these works completed ahead of Christmas.”
Update on Station Approach works Phase 4 - 07/11/2024
Phase 4 of the Station Approach works will begin on the evening of Monday 11 November until late November at the Westgate / Sankt Augustin Way junction under the following traffic management:
- Closure of the right-hand lane from Westgate into Sankt Augustin Way
- Diversion route via Wharf Road / High Street (B1174) / Barrowby Road / Sankt Augustin Way, and vice versa

- Diversion route via the B1174 High Street and London Road / Tollemache Road / A1 / Harlaxton Road, and vice versa
Update on Station Approach works Phase 3 - 22/10/2024
Phase 3 of the Station Approach works will begin on Monday 28 October until mid-November at the Harlaxton Road/Sankt Augustin Way traffic island under the following traffic management:
- Temporary traffic signals to take traffic coming from Harlaxton Road counter-clockwise around the traffic island on the Harlaxton Road and Sankt Augustin Way junction while works are carried out at this location
- All vehicles are encouraged to proceed with caution during this phase of works
- Queues are likely during these works, so people are encouraged to leave extra time for their journeys
- HGVs are likely to experience difficulties when manoeuvring at the junction and are encouraged to use an alternative route, depending on their route
- Access to Sankt Augustin Way for HGVs may be easier approached via Wharf Road due to the alleviation of any difficult manoeuvres with little road space
- If using the Harlaxton Road/Sankt Augustin Way junction, HGVs are asked to travel at minimum speed
Changes on Station Approach works Phase 2 - 23/09/2024
Phase 2 of the Station Approach works will begin on Friday 27 September until late October under the following traffic management:
- Full closure of Station Road West from the private car park south of the residential dwellings to the junction
- Access to premises will be maintained
- There will be no access to Grantham Railway Station from Westgate or Wharf Road
- Temporary traffic signals being introduced at Old Wharf Road, in conjunction with traffic signals being slightly re-located prior to the bridge at Harlaxton Road to ease congestion under the bridge
- Diversion route via Wharf Road / London Road / Station Road East, and vice versa

Cllr Davies added: “These works will no doubt cause a significant amount of disruption in Grantham while underway. However, I want to assure everyone that we’ll be doing all we can to keep this to a minimum. This includes keeping noise to a minimum after 10pm; maintaining access when possible; keeping pedestrian footways open; and generally working as quickly and efficiently.
“In the meantime, we’re also asking people to leave extra time for their journeys starting mid-August and to treat our workforce with respect one works are underway here.”
The project is being fully funded by a portion of the £4.1 million of Grantham Future High Street Fund funding awarded to the South Kesteven District Council in 2020 by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.
