The Friends of Lincoln Castle guides are celebrating having delivered tours to over 100,000 visitors since 2015.

Following an extensive three-year restoration, Lincoln Castle reopened in April 2015 and guides from the Friends of Lincoln Castle (FOLC) began offering daily guided tours to visitors eager to discover the castle’s 1,000-year history.

On 26 July 2024, the medieval monument reached another milestone when guide, Mike Lewins, welcomed the 100,000th visitor for their tour of the grounds.

Malcolm Ross, from the Friends of Lincoln Castle group, said:

“Paul and I, as guiding officers, are proud to lead a dedicated team who give so much to enhancing the visitor experience at Lincoln Castle.

“We are delighted that we have reached this 100,000 visitor milestone and look forward to welcoming the next 100,000!”

Kim Vickers, Lincoln Castle general manager, added:

"We are thrilled to celebrate the milestone of welcoming the 100,000th person to experience one of our guided tours at Lincoln Castle, a testament to the dedication and passion of our volunteer guides from the Friends of Lincoln Castle.

“Their commitment to delivering exceptional tours and providing comprehensive training and recruitment for new guides is truly remarkable.

“The positive feedback we continually receive from our visitors highlights the significant impact these tours have on their experience. We are incredibly grateful for the invaluable contribution of our volunteers, and we look forward to continuing this successful collaboration for many years to come."

Guided rounds tours are available to visitors with a day ticket and Annual Pass holders, and are led by one of FOLC’s specialist guides.

Lasting between 45 minutes and an hour, the tours explore the area of the bailey within the castle walls, and is ideal both for those who seek an introduction to the historic site, as well as for anyone who wants to delve deeper into the colourful history of the castle.

As you explore the grounds your guide will tell of the people who once populated the castle and of the key battles that were fought about its walls in medieval times.
