The latest update on the Spalding Western Relief Road.

What we achieved in April, May and June

  • Completed all concrete works to bridge parapets
  • Completed concrete works to four ground beams on ramps
  • Completed installation of all pre-cast parapet units, including slip blocks to top of Tensar walls
  • Completed waterproofing to bridge deck/parapets and all approach pre-cast parapets
  • Waterproofing to Blue Gowt culvert deck
  • Fixed handrails to Blue Gowt culvert and wingwalls
  • Started installation of ducting across bridge and northwest ramp
  • Vehicle restraint system installed across bridge and in progress to eastern ramp approach
  • Footpaths trimmed and ready for surfacing
  • Completed all streetlighting and traffic signal ducting completed
  • Installed large majority of tactile paving for site
  • Northern and southern access tracks both kerbed, filled and ready for surfacing
  • Installed bagged headwalls to drainage outfalls / excavated ditch / profiled up to corner track to Blue Gowt Lane
  • Carried out remedial surfacing and lining works at new roundabout
  • Filled underside of east and west ramps with material and tested satisfactorily
  • Removed scaffolding at all four Tensar walls and started trimming along bottom of walls in preparation for fill and / topsoil
  • Commenced tree pit install to south of east ramp
  • Backfill to east abutment and western pier and abutment
  • Reduced level dig under and around bridge (east side of railway) to accommodate future access track and topsoiling works
  • Commenced removed of storage platform and cart/tip onto adjacent landowner’s land for their future use

What's planned in July, August and September

  • Complete drainage kerbing across bridge and all other kerbs/kerb drainage
  • Continue ducting to both northern side ramps with concrete over to underside tarmac surfacing
  • Completion of vehicle restraint system installation
  • Complete landscaping fill along both Tensar walls / bottom of walls
  • Complete construction of access track with associated parking area under bridge
  • Complete surfacing works
  • Lay white lining to new road surfacing
  • Install rail bridge signage
  • Complete footpath prep and carry out all surfacing to paths and access tracks
  • Close rail crossing LX76 and install palisade and post/rail fencing to rail boundaries
  • Install permanent hoarding to vehicle restraint system over bridge
  • Continue landscaping works to roundabout
  • Complete storage removal from triangle west of railway
  • Install traffic signs

Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures

  • Continued closure of Two Plank Bridge
  • Continued closure of public right of way 15/1 and Two Plank Lane for bridge footpath construction until Summer 2024

Upcoming traffic restrictions and closures

  • Network Rail LX76 crossing closure date to be arranged
