The latest update on Grantham Market Place.

What we achieved in June

  • Stone cobbles removed across whole site / whole site excavated and trimmed to formation
  • Kerbs and concrete base slabs removed from the Westgate and Market Place carriageway entrance raised tables
  • Kerbs re-laid at new levels to the car park access, Conduit Lane north access and the Westgate raised table
  • Installed three new road gullies and associated drainage connections
  • Raised manholes and service chambers to new design levels
  • Continued laying lower levels of new road surfacing throughout site
  • Discovered an existing well in the main carriageway, removed existing brick arched cover and replaced with a pre-cast concrete cover slab
  • Cleaned nearly 1,600 stone setts and drecycled by donation to Harrowby Football Club
  • Laid new granite cobbles and Yorkstone setts to the first 20m of Westgate Road and the layby

What’s happening in July

  • Raise levels of additional road gully and manhole covers
  • Backfill sub-base to newly-discovered well area and install base and binder surfacing to the Market Place entrance
  • Continue laying granite cobbles and Yorkstone setts, including applying jointing material

Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures

  • Full road closure of the Market Place and a soft closure on Conduit Lane (access maintained for taxi rank)
  • 24/7 barriers around the whole Market Place construction area (all pedestrian areas are accessible)
  • Access maintained to the temporary parking area outside Eden, Gravity and Revolution (this access will be suspended in the coming month to give safe working space to remove the Conduit Lane raised table)
  • Access maintained to the footway outside the Conduit Lane Tearooms and the Reflect Recruitment Offices
  • Removed bollards at the top of Butchers Walk for ease of deliveries to businesses
  • Loading areas maintained at the top of Market Place junction with Watergate and on Narrow Westgate
