£400,000 footpath scheme is go!

The diversion route for the works.

Works are planned to finish before the new school year.

Karen Cassar, assistant director of Highways at LCC said: “This is an important set of works that will replace a large section of footpath that has deteriorated and give better accessibility.

“Alongside the footpath works will also be drainage repairs, rebuilding of vehicle access routes and new tactile crossing points.

“We have been able to schedule these works to begin on July 5, so that there will be less disruption during voting for the general election. In turn, because we are basically slotting into the same works area that Cadent Gas are currently working in as a type of ‘joint planning’ to keep disruption down as much as possible, we are also looking to complete the job before the start of the new school year.

“By scheduling these works to be in-step with Cadent’s works, we can get a lot of improvement brought to the area mostly while the schools are broken up. The alternative is to carry out the footpath uplift months down the line, which will impact on the local area with more disruption at a busier time.”

Locations of works

The works will be carried out at Hykeham Road, Lincoln. The west section is sited between the Tattoo Studio up to St Margarets Gardens. The east section will happen between house numbers 79 and 221.

Dates and times

The Monday to Friday works will begin on Friday, July 5 and are scheduled to have an end date of Friday, August 30.

Traffic management

Because of the nature of the extensive footpath rebuild, a one-way road flow will be in place for the duration of the works. Hykeham Road will be open for inbound traffic only (in Lincoln direction) and there will be no access to Hykeham Road via Newark Road.

Diversion route

The accompanying diversion route will be; Newark Road, Moor Lane, Lincoln Road and vice versa.

Karen Cassar added: “It’s worth saying also that we are completing Hykeham Road footpath works in stages and will be returning over subsequent summer periods to complete the reconstruction works, finally reaching Hykeham Moor Lane crossroads.

“Following on from the Hykeham Road footpath reconstruction works, we will rebuild the flagged footways on Wallis Avenue, St. Margarets Garden and Southland Drive.

“These footpath works will mean a much-improved area and better experience for those who walk along the route. We are taking every possible option available to us to get this section completed with the least amount of traffic flow disruption over the year.

“It’s not often we get the chance to bring a scale of footpath works like this to areas in the city and I’d like to thank everyone effected for their patience and understanding while we deliver the programme.”
