A message to Lincolnshire’s volunteers

Cllr Martin Hill - a white man with grey hair wearing a blue shirt, beige tie and jacket.

Monday 3 June marks the start of 2024’s National Volunteers’ Week. Though it may be an ordinary week for many people, there’s nothing ordinary about our volunteers!

This year is the 40th annual celebration of the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering. Activities start on the first Monday in June every year. Volunteers’ Week 2024 will culminate in The Big Help Out, from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 June.

It’s a chance to recognise, celebrate and thank the UK’s incredible volunteers for all they contribute to local communities, the voluntary sector, and society as a whole.

In choosing to dedicate time and enthusiasm to benefit others, you and volunteers like you across Lincolnshire, go above and beyond to help our communities. I hope and believe this will inspire even more people to share their skills, dynamism and creativity in the way you do.

Volunteers bring energy and expertise to tasks or projects and benefit everyone who lives in, works in and visits Lincolnshire. Some of you have volunteered for many years, and some are new to supporting local people and places.

As well as helping others, volunteering can improve your well-being, develop valuable skills and experiences and boost your confidence.

We celebrate our 50th year this year and volunteers have played a central role throughout that time.

The council has a vision of thriving communities where volunteers play an active role to shape local service delivery, promote community cohesion and positively influence decision making.

I would like to thank you for donating your time to the people of Lincolnshire. Your effort is highly valued and crucial to making our county a better place to live. You should each be incredibly proud of your contributions.

Cllr Martin Hill, Leader of Lincolnshire County Council
