A bird’s eye artist’s impression of the completed scheme has also been released.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: "With our ‘Levelling Up’ improvements at the A16 Springfield Roundabout now past their midway point, we’ve started work today on giving its neighbouring junction – the A16/B1180 Pinchbeck Roundabout – a major overhaul.
“Our main goal with this project is to reduce congestion and improve journey times on the A16, while also creating more capacity for agri-food sector vehicles and future-proofing the roundabout for A16 upgrades down the line.
“This will be a huge undertaking that will see the roundabout rebuilt with wider inner lanes and longer approaches and exits on the A16 North. We’ll also be installing an all-new drainage system, signage, street lighting and road surfacing.
“As you can see in our new artist’s render of the completed scheme, the roundabout and its connecting legs will all look very different when we’re finished on-site.”
The main traffic management for the project will be as follows:
- Temporary 30mph speed limit
- 24/7 barriers at the roundabout, with the current two-lane entries and single-lane exits
- Narrowed roundabout lanes
In addition, the following traffic management will also be in place during set dates and times:
- Full closure of the B1180, starting Monday 15 July for up to eight weeks
- Night-time temporary traffic signals on the roundabout starting in the autumn
Cllr Davies continued: “As with all of our major road improvement projects, some disruption is inevitable. However, we’ll be doing all we can to keep people moving while also maintaining access to all businesses.”
The project will be funded by a portion of the £20m in ‘Levelling Up’ funding awarded to the county council in October 2021. The remaining funding is being used across four other projects, including improvements to Spalding’s A16/B1180 Springfield Roundabout, the A16 Marsh Lane Roundabout, and footway/cycleway improvements in Boston and Spalding.
