The latest update on the Newland highway improvements.
What we achieved in April
- Set-up compound and traffic management required for the works, including the installation of intelligent temporary traffic signals
- Decommissioned traffic signals at Carholme Street and Lucy Tower Street junctions
- Started work on Carholme Road traffic islands – two have been surfaced and are completed
- Completed excavations for new kerbing and channels along the south-side of Newland and started laying the new kerbs and channels
- Commenced gully relocation and ductwork
What’s happening in May
- Complete kerbs and channels on the south-side of Newland
- Continue footpath reconstruction of the south-side of Newland
- Switch to new working area on the north-side of Newland
- Begin work on the Lucy Tower Street junction
- Continue earthworks and drainage works
Current/ongoing traffic restrictions and closures
- 24/7 westbound closure of Newland, between Wigford Way and The Avenue
- Diversion via East West Link, Tentercroft Street, Rope Walk and Brayford Way
- Vehicles can access Lucy Tower Street and the multi-storey car park by travelling eastbound along Newland
