‘Levelling Up’ improvements to the A16/B1180 Pinchbeck Roundabout will start on Monday 13 May.

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: "I’m really glad to announce that we’re less than two months away from starting our fifth, and final, Levelling Up improvement scheme along the A16 – this one at the A16/B1180 Pinchbeck Roundabout.

“Not only will we be making the roundabout bigger, with the junction widened to provide two wider lanes within the roundabout, but we’ll also be lengthening the two-lane approaches and exits on the A16 North.

“And, while the road is dug up, we’ll also be taking the opportunity to install a new drainage system ahead of laying new road surfacing and installing new signage and street lighting columns.

“Like the rest of our ‘Levelling Up’ improvements, these enhancements to the roundabout will help increase capacity, reduce congestion, improve journey times, and future-proof the roundabout for A16 upgrades down the line.”

The project is expected to take up to ten months to complete.

When the works begin, temporary traffic signals or night-time closures will be required to remove the traffic islands at the roundabout. These details are not yet confirmed; however, we will share the final details once a contractor is appointed in the coming weeks.

Following that, the main traffic management for the project will be as follows:

  • 24/7 barriers at the roundabout, with the current two-lane entries and single-lane exits
  • Ongoing narrowed roundabout lanes

Cllr Davies added: “It’s important to note that these works will be running concurrently with our ongoing works down the road at the A16/A151 Springfield Roundabout.

“As with any major road improvement project, some disruption on local roads is inevitable when work is underway. However, we’ll be doing everything we can to keep people moving and to ensure access to the nearby businesses is maintained throughout the scheme.”

The project will be funded by a portion of the £20m in ‘Levelling Up’ funding awarded to the county council in October 2021. The remaining funding is being used across four other projects, including improvements to Spalding’s A16/A151 Springfield Roundabout, the A16 Marsh Lane Roundabout, and active travel improvements in Boston and Spalding.
