The maintenance and resurfacing project will start this spring.
Set to start on Monday 15 April, the seven-month maintenance and repair project in Lincoln’s city centre will see major refurbishments carried out on Newland, between Wigford Way and The Avenue – along with some of Wigford Way, Mint Lane and Lucy Tower Street.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “This improvement scheme is going to be a massive piece of work right in the heart of Lincoln. Not only will we be completely rebuilding the carriageway along Newland from the ground up, but we’ll also be replacing kerbs and footways that have started falling apart and improving our highways drainage to help alleviate standing water in the area when it rains.
“Another huge part of the project will be replacing two of Lincoln’s oldest sets of the traffic signals – at the Lucy Tower Street/Newland junction and at the Carholme Road/Brayford Way junction.
“Carrying all of this work out will mean this stretch of road will be able to withstand decades more use before more highways improvements need to be done.”
Traffic management throughout the project will likely include a combination a 24/7 westbound lane closure of Newland and full night-time road closures as needed.
Specific dates and details for traffic management are still being finalised and will be shared closer to the time, once a contractor is confirmed.
Cllr Davies added: “Because these crucial works are taking place in the very centre of Lincoln, there will no doubt be disruption throughout the city. However, we’ll be doing our absolute best to ensure the works are carried out as efficiently as possible and will keep people informed about what’s happening via the project webpage – lincolnshire.gov.uk/newland.
“We’ll also be appointing a dedicated public liaison officer for the project so that businesses and residents have a single point-of-contact for any concerns or issues they may have. Once appointed he or she will be in touch.”
