South Eau Bank to get resurfacing works

The diversion route for the South Eau Bank work

Section of drought damaged road will be replaced.

Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said: “This section of road has been pushed out of shape because of drought damage which has caused the material underneath to move.

“Our crew will dig out the necessary underpinning and rebuild it to improve the road for everyone.

“We have to put a full road closure in place, because of the nature of the work. It will mean some element of disruption while the work is going on, but we will do our best to complete the programme of work as quickly as we can.”

Location of works

The works will be carried out on the B1166 South Eau bank, Throckenholt, from west of French Drove to east of Lutton Gate.

Dates and times

The works will begin on Monday, February 19 and have a planned end date of Thursday, March 7 subject to suitable weather. Work on site will happen from 07.30 to 17.00.

Traffic management

A road closure is required for the duration of the works.

Diversion route

The signed diversion route will be; B1166 South Eau Bank, A16/B116 to County Boundary, A16 Crowland Bypass, B1443 Thorney Road – Peterborough Road, B1040 Station Road – A47 Thorney Bypass, A47 New Cut Roundabout, AA47 Wisbech Road, A47 Fen Road, B1187 Gull Road, B1187 The Bank, B1166 South Eau Bank and vice versa.

Karen Cassar added: “It will cost approximately £400,000 to complete the works, but it will mean a very big improvement to the area.

“I would like to thank everyone effected for their patience while we get this road improvement programme finished and South Eau Bank in a better state for road users.”
