Short Ferry remains closed

Short Ferry road partial flooding

Recent heavy rainfall and the sodden condition of surrounding land means that Short Ferry crossing is still closed.

LCC stopped traffic using the road on the advice of the Environment Agency. A section of the riverbank that was originally damaged during Storm Babet last October overtopped again two weeks ago forcing the road to be closed once more.

The EA is monitoring the breach on the left bank of the Barlings Eau and are pumping water from the area when it is effective to do so. The agency says that it will soon be undertaking temporary repairs to the breach using funding from its existing programme.

Whilst the temporary measures are put in place, the EA will explore options with partners including LCC and the local community about what to do for a more permanent solution.

LCC will maintain the road closure until road conditions are safe to use.

The diversion route remains as: B1202, A158, A15 bypass and then Fiskerton Road into Fiskerton.
