Speedy response by LCC means there’s a route still useable amongst the floodwater

Update: LCC crews have found a way to open a single lane across – but expect delays.

Dunham Bridge has been partially reopened this evening (11 January) thanks to a huge amount of work by LCC Highways. Read more here.

There’s a full road closure going on around the A57 at Dunham Bridge. This is due to exceptionally high floodwater levels that have left roads impassable.

The route diverts from the A57 via the A1 and A46 - see the map below with the diversion route marked in blue. The reason for the diversion route’s design is that like-for-like roads must be used so that larger vehicles are kept on the same size and type of road classification for safety.

A57 Dunham Bridge diversion

LCC Highways has worked closely with National Highways (looks after the A1 and A46) and Nottinghamshire County Council to put in the major diversion route in a short period of time.

Putting this in place so quickly has involved a huge effort by crews on-site with it taking more than 150 road signs to put in place.

Bespoke signs have also been quickly created and installed at key locations to ensure that road users are aware of this diversion.

Lincolnshire County Council has implemented the closure on both the Lincolnshire roads network and the National Highways roads (A1 and A46).

The works have been collaborative with Nottinghamshire County Council, which has signed its section of the route accordingly.

There is a warning from the Environment Agency that the elevated River Trent water levels could still be an issue into the middle of next week.
