Road reconstruction works within Skegness will start in late September.

UPDATE: Traffic management change for Skegness road repairs - 02/11/2023

Traffic management and phasing for the ongoing road improvements in Skegness have been amended as follows:

  • w/c 13 November
    • Night-time closure at Clock Tower Roundabout for two nights (7pm to 6am)
    • Daytime closures on Grand Parade for five days (8am to 5pm)
  • w/c 20 November
    • Night-time closure at Drummond Road for two nights days (7pm to 6am)
    • Daytime closure at North Parade and Grand Parade for two days (8am to 5pm)
  • w/c 27 November
    • 24-hour southbound closure of Roman Bank, between Ida Road to Berry Way gyratory (plus closure of Algitha Road) for five days until the morning of Saturday 2 December

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “Unfortunately, when we return to site in mid-November, we’ll be changing the traffic management for our ongoing Skegness road improvements from night-time working on Grand Parade to daytime working.

“This is due to the project team witnessing unsafe behaviour near site that has created a hazardous work environment for the construction team.

“This will cause some additional disruption for local businesses and the travelling public. However, the safety of our workforce and members of the public is paramount and we must do what is in their best interest to keep them safe at all times.

“These works are still on track to be complete by early December. In the meantime, we ask anyone travelling within Skegness to leave extra time for their journeys during the day.”

Major improvements to Skegness roads set for late next month - 05/09/2023

Update: Due to the contractor being delayed on another site, these works will now begin on Monday 2 October. Please note that the works are still expected to be complete in early December as planned.

The phasing for the works has also been amended as follows:

  • Monday 2 October for up to one week: daytime temporary traffic signals from 8am to 6pm on North Parade (between Castleton Blvd and McDonalds)
  • Fri 6 October and w/c 9th October: Night-time road closure from 7pm to 6am on Grand Parade (between McDonalds and the Clock Tower Roundabout)
  • Thursday 12 and Friday 13 October: night-time road closure from 7pm to 6am on Drummond Road
  • No works during October half-term, from 16th October to 5th November
  • Monday 6 November for up to one week: night-time closure from 7pm to 6am between Grand Parade and Clock Tower Roundabout
  • Monday 13 November: daytime road closure from 8am to 6pm on North Parade (between Castleton Blvd and McDonalds)
  • Mid-November for up to two weeks: 24-hour southbound closure on Roman Bank / Algitha Road

Dates above are subject to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

Karen Cassar, assistant director for highways, said: “Following on from our resurfacing works to Roman Bank last year, we’re now working to rebuild some of Skegness’s other major roads, including North Parade, Grand Parade and Drummond Road.

“This will be a really big undertaking involving excavating the failing sections of carriageway and using over 4,000 tonnes of tarmac and other materials to rebuild them.

“While on-site, we’ll also be replacing the gullies along Lumley Avenue which will help improve drainage along the road and will be resurfacing a small section of Roman Bank between Ida Road and Lincoln Road too.”

Cllr Carl Macey, North Skegness county councillor, said: “The reconstruction of Roman Bank has made journeys through Skegness much better for residents and visitors alike, so we’re now focusing on rebuilding some of our other major routes.

“There will, no doubt, be some disruption while the roadworks are underway. However, this is a necessary part of all highways improvements, so I ask everyone affected to remain patient and bear with us.”
