Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are hosting an exciting national rescue challenge in Lincoln this month.
Visitors can watch the event, that includes teams scaling the heights of Lincoln Cathedral and rescuing ‘casualties’ from the Brayford in powerboats.
The United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) Festival of Rescue is being held on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 September with professional rescue and trauma teams from around the UK competing in the challenges.
From cutting open vehicles, rescuing casualties from heights using ropes, dealing with trauma care and water rescue – members of the public will be able to see these high-performance teams in action.
There will also be a canine event featuring Urban Search and Rescue dogs and other working dogs showing off their skills and giving the public a close look at how they save lives.
The main backdrop for this year’s challenges will be the historic cathedral quarter of uphill Lincoln.
Some of the highlights that take place from 10am to 4.30pm on both days, include:
- vehicle extrication challenge and canine demonstrations – the Lawn, Lincoln
- rope rescue challenges – Lincoln Cathedral, Exchequergate and Water Tower
- trauma care challenge and community safety village - Lincoln Castle (Cadet casualty care on Saturday only)
- water rescue challenge - Newark Trent Weir (Friday) and Brayford Pool, Lincoln (Saturday)
As well as the challenges there will be a community village within the grounds of Lincoln Castle and the Lawn, with educational and other activities, including stalls from sponsors of the event. You can also see live demonstrations from LIVES and Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance, try out the car crash simulator and find out about our joint ‘Biker Down’ course, first aid and more.
