Two sets of resurfacing works for Louth

Signs and cones on a road.

Nearly £300,000 of improvement coming to the market town.

Karen Cassar, Assistant Director for Highways said: “We are delighted that we can bring this improvement to Louth.

“By replacing the existing road surface, we are going to be delivering a better ride quality and many more years of use along these busy routes.

“This is a particularly complex set of works which are being carried out in two phases to help the flow of traffic in the area.

“Eastgate will be the first phase whilst the second phase will concentrate on Church Street. We will not start phase two until phase one is complete to keep traffic disruption as minimal as possible.

“To further minimise the impact on traffic flow, we will be carrying out these works overnight from 22.00 to 06.00.”

Dates and times

The works will begin on Tuesday, August 29 and have a planned end date of Thursday, September 14, subject to suitable weather. There are no weekend works planned.

Traffic management

There will be road closures in place during working hours overnight, but these will not be 24 hours. The closures will be lifted at the end of each shift to minimise disruption on the local road network.

  • Works will be carried out in two phases. Phase ONE on Eastgate will be completed before Phase TWO on Church Street begins.

A TTRO will also be in place for NO PARKING restrictions on both phases of works as each becomes live during the scheme’s working hours.

Diversion route

Diversion Route for Phase ONE on Eastgate: Eastgate onto St Bernards Avenue / B1200 Newmarket / B1520 Upgate / C532 Mercer Row / Market Place – Eastgate to Northgate junction only.

Diversion Route for Phase TWO on Church Street: C532 Eastgate / St Bernard’s Avenue / B1200 Newmarket / B1520 Upgate / C532 Mercer Row - Market Place - Eastgate.

  • Also for Phase TWO: Queens Street will be closed from Church Street junction to Burnt Hill Lane junction.
  • The Kidgate one-way system will be suspended during Phase TWO. Residential access/egress will be via Upgate only during overnight working hours.

Karen Cassar added: "This is a significant programme of improvement for Louth and will cost approximately £288,000. Once the schedule is complete, the roads will have a much-better ride quality and longevity.

“We are very grateful to the people of Louth for their patience and understanding whilst we carry out these works.”
