Cllr Hill Blog: June 2023

Summer has most definitely arrived and kicking off a season full of outdoor events in the county is the annual Lincolnshire Show, organised by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society.

Many of us look forward to this event as a true celebration of everything great about our county. There are very few traditional county shows left, and I love that its farming roots are still a large part of the Lincolnshire Show. The show mixes traditional agricultural displays and competitions with more modern retail, food, and commercial offerings that visitors now expect from a day out.

As a council, we think it’s important to support this flagship event in the county diary, and we will again be part of the Greater Lincolnshire Councils stand, alongside our colleagues and councillors from North and North East Lincolnshire councils.

On our stand, visitors will be able to meet the elected councillors who represent them, be entertained by displays and music, and find out more about the vast range of services that our councils provide.

This includes finding out more about attractions right across Lincolnshire, how we are looking after our environment, careers now and in the future, and keeping people safe in the county.

We’ve got lots of fun activities on our stand. Come and have a picture with the steam locomotive from Cleethorpes Light Railway, take a virtual reality tour of historic Lincoln and handle artefacts from Lincolnshire’s history.

See if you can identify common British birds and plant seeds to take home, and you can literally put yourself on the map and tell us where your favourite places in Lincolnshire are.

Use the digger simulator and interact with Spot the robo-dog to learn more about how we build and repair roads, and see the amazing electric racing car that Baysgarth School have made from recycled materials.

There’s also a range of free games, sports and music ‘have a go’ activities for all ages. It’s all designed to help our residents enjoy a day out and get information and support on things that might be useful to them or people they know.

Whether you want to know what’s on offer at your local family hub, get help for someone in their home, become a firefighter, or be inspired to learn something new; a visit to our stand really does offer something for everyone!

So join us and the hundreds of other exhibitors for the 138th Lincolnshire Show, and lets celebrate everything that’s great about our county and our communities.
