Findings underground mean a short-term road closure in place for further investigations and re-instatement works.
The ongoing works on Park Road, Spalding begin the next phase today (Thursday, June 15).
LCC’s expert team has raised the scale of excavations within the road itself, meaning an upscale of the traffic restrictions at the specific location from 2-way lights to a full closure.
As far as traffic management goes, the localised diversion will run through Pinchbeck Road, Kings Road, Station Approach, Winsover Road and vice versa.
Cllr Richard Davies, Executive member for Highways at LCC said: “We are doing everything possible to identify the cause of the issues at the site and whilst we are undertaking this work, we will also do our utmost to keep the disruption to a minimum.
“At this point, we are of the opinion that the cause of the void is down to water washing away a section of the construction material used in the foundation layers of the original road surface.
“The next step is to extend the investigation with a view to sourcing the cause of the issues below the surface and addressing what we find before a re-instatement of the road is carried out.
“At the moment, we are hoping to have the site back to normal road operation in the next couple of weeks, but this may extend because of unforeseen circumstances or extreme weather.
“Our team will be working hard to get this work finished as soon as possible and I would like to thank everyone effected for their patience and understanding in this matter.”
