A shot of The Crown filmed at Burghley House

Over the last few years, some of Lincolnshire’s famous places and landmarks have been featured in top TV shows and movies.

Whether Hollywood blockbuster or major TV series, Lincolnshire is increasingly where producers are looking to find great locations.

Filming of Ridley Scott’s new Napoleon movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix, took place in early 2022 featuring Lincoln Cathedral as Notre Dame. The film is due out later this year. The cathedral has also doubled as London’s Westminster Abbey in The Da Vinci Code and in The Young Victoria.

Burghley House in Stamford featured in Series 5 of the Netflix drama The Crown. The beautiful house was used to replicate Windsor Castle. It will also be seen on the big screen this year as the house features in The Flash movie.

The latest series of Strike used Skegness as a filming location. The TV series is based on the fifth novel in the series of books by J K Rowling, writing under the name of Robert Galbraith.

With such a fascinating history, Lincoln Castle is often used as a location for TV documentaries and interest programmes. The Victorian Prison has previously featured in popular shows including Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife.

Executive councillor for economy and place, Cllr Colin Davie, said:

“Increasingly, production companies are looking for new and interesting locations to film in. Showcasing our beautiful county to an international audience is fabulous for our tourist industry and our reputation. But we also see economic benefits while film companies are here – to our hospitality, catering and other local businesses.”

Lincolnshire County Council is now a member of the Filming in England Partnership working with Creative England. This means we are actively working with local partners and national agencies to welcome filming to Lincolnshire, helping companies to find great locations in our county to assist film and TV productions.
