Two free events will help parents and carers support their young person to have healthy relationships and stay safe online.
On Wednesday 17 May, the Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Partnership is running an online workshop on Navigating Teenage Relationships. The one-hour session aims to provide parents and carers with a toolkit to support their young person through the complexities of having a healthy relationship.
Kathryn Smith, community safety strategy coordinator, said: “When a young person begins to date or become romantically involved, their life can seem exciting, but it can also become extremely difficult. Teenagers don’t always like to talk about what’s happening in their love life, but this session will offer parents and carers advice on how best to support their teenager, red flags to look out for and where to find additional help if required.”
This will be followed on Wednesday 14 June by Ask Dan Anything for Parents, an online workshop on how to keep young people safe from online harm. Online guru Dan Hawbrook will chat you through different apps, online trends, parental controls and any other burning questions you might have.
Kathryn added: “In a recent local survey, over two thirds of students said that they access their devices once they’ve gone to bed, and that many parents and carers don’t know anything about what they do online. The survey also showed when parents talked openly to their children about their activity online, those students were less likely to experience cyberbullying and more likely to access support. This event will give parents and carers the information and tools to protect your young person from online harm.”
Both events are free to attend, but places should be booked in advance via the following links:
