Essential bridge works mean road closure

Kirkby on Bain bridge

Kirkby on Bain bridge is getting a refurb from late January.

Red Mill Bridge on Rime’s Lane in Kirkby on Bain is undergoing an extensive set of work that will mean a full road closure in place for around six weeks.

Under the full closure of the road all surfacing above the bridge’s brick arch will be removed, a reinforced concrete bridge saddle will be cast in situ then waterproofed and backfilled.

The brick parapets will also be raised to enable kerbs to be installed to enhance safety as part of the road resurfacing programme, and the existing handrails will be re-attached after being cleaned and repainted.

Work is due to start on January 23, 2023 and will last for around a month and a half which means an estimated completion date of March 3. It is worth noting that these dates could change or be extended due to unforeseen circumstances.

The diversion put in place for the duration of the works are:

Clockwise from Rimes Lane:

Turn right onto A153 heading south towards Coningsby.

After about 5km / 3miles turn right onto Wharfe Lane (signposted towards Tattershall Thorpe).

Cross the River Bain and follow the road around to the right, heading north towards Kirkby on Bain.

After about 4km / 2.5miles follow the road through Kirkby on Bain (it becomes Main St then Roughton Road). Follow Roughton Road north and Rime's Lane will be on the right.

Anticlockwise: from Rimes Lane

Karen Cassar, Assistant Director of Highways said: “It’s great news that we can get these works carried out on the bridge and extend its useful life for many years to come.

“Inevitably, there will always be some sort of issue to local traffic with work like this, but we will try and keep this job to a very strict timetable to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum.

“In the meantime, I would like to thank everyone affected by our works for their patience whilst we get on with the task at hand.”
