Works to replace the stone setts at Red Lion Square in Stamford re-commenced on Monday 13 June.
Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “Following on from the unexpected shallow gas main we identified last month, our improvements to Red Lion Square are back underway.
“By working closely with Cadent Gas, we’ve identified a way forward that doesn’t involve diverting or lowering the shallow gas main we found. Instead, the team will be protecting it with sand, tarmac and steel plates, which means less of an impact on the project.
“Unfortunately, even with this time-saving efficiency under our belt, the project won’t be complete until October.”
The previous traffic management is now back in place near Red Lion Square. This includes:
- Full southbound closure of Red Lion Square and St John’s Street with a signed diversion route in place via A6121 West Street, A6121 North Street, A6121 East Street, A1175 Brazenose Lane, A1175 St Leonard’s Street, A1175 Wharf Road, B1081 St Mary’s Hill, B1081 St Mary’s Street, B1081 St John’s Street, Red Lion Square.
- Northbound traffic will remain unaffected
Cllr Davies added: “Despite the October timeframe we’ve been given, we’re going to continue working with the contractor to identify other options that can pull the completion date forward. However, these may involve implementing additional traffic management restrictions.
“If and when we find any further solutions, we will most definitely let the public know to ensure people can plan their journeys the best way possible.
“In the meantime, I want to remind everyone that Stamford is still open for business. Access for pedestrians will be maintained throughout the entire scheme, no matter the traffic management in place, so it’s business as usual in and around Red Lion Square.”
