Lincolnshire Coastal Highway

The Lincolnshire Coastal Highway is the route comprising the A46 west of Lincoln and along the A158 to Skegness. It also includes the A57 from the county boundary to where it joins the A46 in Lincoln.

Aims and benefits

The project aims and benefits are to:

  • improved transport corridors to the Lincolnshire coast
  • support a range of economic sectors, both across the county and locally
  • assist with supporting balanced growth, securing development and providing access and connectivity

Cost and funding

To date, a total of £7m has been allocated to the project as part of a special 'coastal highway' funding pot.

This funding has been/is being spent across a variety of highway schemes aimed at improving the county's coastal route.

Timeline

  • May 2017: Lincolnshire Coastal Highway included in Lincolnshire Conservative manifesto
  • January 2018: Engagement sessions with key stakeholders take place
  • September 2019: Horncastle Bypass feasibility study completed 
  • May 2020: Reconstructed a section of A52 in Huttoft 
  • September 2020: Reconstructed a section of B1191 in Martin Fen 
  • October 2020: Reconstructed a section of A1031 / bridge refurbishment in Tetney 
  • October 2020: Replaced guardrails at A158 crossroads in Wragby 
  • November 2020: Improve safety and reconstruct a section of A631 Louth to Market Rasen 
  • November 2020: Construct a new puffin crossing on A158 in Wragby 
  • March 2021: Replace ironworks on A158 Langworth to Gunby
  • March 2021: Replace guardrails and replace concrete slabs at various locations in Skegness 
  • April 2021: Patch a section of carriageway on A158 Candlesby to Gunby 
  • April/May 2021: Improve road lining on A158 Wragby and Horncastle
  • May 2021: Resurface a section of A158 through Sausthorpe 
  • June 2021: Construct a new zebra crossing on A157 in Wragby 
  • June 2021: Construct a new roundabout at the A46/Lincoln Road junction near Dunholme and Welton 
  • June 2021: Resurface and patch a section of A52 in Wrangle 
  • July 2021: Resurface and improve safety on a section of A631 in Glentham 
  • Sept 2021: Resurface a section of A158 in Langworth 
  • March 2022: Carry out road surface treatment to a section of Scarborough Avenue in Skegness
  • May 2022: Refurbish footways and reconstruct a 550m section of Roman Bank in Skegness 
  • Spring 2023: Complete feasibility study for a new coastal path between Sandilands and Chapel St Leonards Observatory
  • TBC 2025*: Construct the new North Hykeham Relief Road
