Case studies
Sam has been a council employee for several years and is currently pursuing a Chartered Town Planner apprenticeship. Her journey so far has been incredibly positive, thanks to the strong support from her managers, family, and friends.
Studying at Sheffield Hallam University, Sam has discovered new aspects of planning that she hadn’t encountered in her workplace. When we asked her how she keeps her learning experience enjoyable, she shared, “I enjoy my job, so learning new theories, processes, and details is key for me. I also make sure to choose learning methods that suit my style, so it doesn’t feel like hard work.” This highlights how apprenticeships can cater to different learning preferences.
Sam has valuable advice for those starting their own apprenticeship: “Embrace all the new things you’re going to learn, and don’t hesitate to draw on others’ experiences and knowledge throughout your journey.”
