Watch our video breaking down the assessment process.
Following your formal application and your first home visit from one of our friendly Social Workers, the assessment process is broken down into two stages.
Start your application
Application:
- attend one of our online fostering information events
- submit your initial expression of interest
- receive an initial visit from one of our recruitment team
- you will then complete your registration of interest. This is your formal application.
Stage one:
- checks and references, this includes medical and criminal background checks
- whilst we complete our checks, we ask you to undertake our comprehensive three day preparation course
- you will be allocated Supervising Social Worker to help you complete the assessment
Stage two:
- your Supervising Social Worker will continue your assessment
- approval - the fostering panel will make a recommendation following your assessment
- final decision - this is made by an assistant director of children's services
- notification - you will be informed of the final decision in writing
Did you know that you could be approved as a foster carer within 12 weeks.
