We are the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) for Lincolnshire and responsible for managing the risk of flooding from the following sources:
- Surface water
- Ordinary watercourses
- Groundwater
Find out more about these flood sources and our role as LLFA in the Joint Lincolnshire Flood Risk and Water Management Strategy.
The roles and responsibilities of the County Council as LLFA are as follows:
- We develop and maintain a Local Flood Risk Management Strategy
- We carry out investigations into flooding and then publish the outcomes
- We undertake works to manage flood risk from surface runoff, groundwater and ordinary watercourses
- We are a statutory consultee in planning for all major developments
- We maintain a register of assets
- We regulate ordinary watercourses outside of Internal Drainage Board areas. In Lincolnshire, Internal Drainage Boards act as our agents in these areas.
To assist us in meeting our statutory requirements we work with other Risk Management Authorities (RMAs), key stakeholders and communities.
The RMAs we work with in Lincolnshire are:
- Environment Agency. You can check the Environment Agency's interactive flood map to see if your area is at risk of flooding
- Internal drainage boards operating in Lincolnshire
- Borough, city and district councils
- Water and sewerage companies operating in Lincolnshire; Anglian Water and Seven Trent Water.
To improve the way we work together in the county these organisations form the Flood Risk and Water Management Partnership and are joined by:
- The Regional Flood and Coastal Committee RFCC)
- The Lincolnshire Resilience Forum (LRF)
- Natural England
