Fire cadets is a national programme for people between the ages of 12 and 17.
It aims to build safer communities and reduce anti-social behaviour. It does this through teaching fire safety skills, firefighting skills and community-based activities.
Once you have been a fire cadet for two years, you can become a junior instructor. You will help the specialist instructors manage and run your local unit.
Once you turn 18, you can apply to become a volunteer instructor. You may choose to become an on-call or wholetime firefighter.
How to apply
We currently have schemes running in Skegness, Lincoln, Boston and Spalding.
When there is space at your nearest unit, we will invite you to an interview. This is not tough but allows you to express your reasons for joining.
If you pass the interview, you will become a fire cadet of that unit.
What is involved?
You will attend weekly meetings, in term-time only. There is a weekly subscription of £2.
You will receive your own firefighter cadet uniform and fire kit. You will use them to parade in and undertake firefighting activities.
Each meeting may consist of a lecture and a practical application of what you have learnt. It will also involve fitness activities and presentations from outside agencies.
We task each fire cadet unit with helping their local community. This involves assisting with community events, from car washing to parades.
