If councils here received the average funding for council areas in England, the region would benefit from £120 million extra funding for services, every year.
This could help pay for new infrastructure and valued council services.
Examples of projects that could potentially be paid for by fairer funding include:
- repairing and rebuilding our most rural, smaller roads so they are more able to cope with modern traffic, such as HGVs and farm vehicles
- funding 100 flood prevention schemes, protecting up to 5,600 more homes
- building on the good progress in extending access to high-speed broadband, using recent innovations to get signals to remote places
Councils in Lincolnshire have seen huge cuts to their Government funding and the cost of providing services is increasing. Council leaders are setting out a strong case for a fair deal for Lincolnshire to local MPs and government ministers.
What can I do?
You can help Lincolnshire councils get more money for your local services, by contacting your MP to tell them you support the campaign.
Letter to your MP template
You can use this template to write a letter to your local MP asking them to support the fairer funding campaign. You can find your MP on the parliament.uk website.
Dear [YOUR MP],
Fairer funding for Lincolnshire
I am one of your constituents, and I am writing to ask you to support Lincolnshire County Council’s campaign for fairer government funding for the county.
Although like-for-like comparisons can be difficult, it’s estimated that currently local government in Lincolnshire receives over £300 less per household, compared to the national average. If the county were to be given its fair share that would mean an extra £120m for our area each year.
This additional funding would make a significant difference to our residents.
Use this space to share your personal thoughts about how you would like to see any extra funding used. Examples could include:
- Major road improvements
- Improved flood protection
- Better broadband connections
- Freezing council tax rates
It’s long been recognised that Lincolnshire faces particular challenges as a result of its rurality and aging population, and this should be better reflected in our funding. I hope that you will consider using your influence in parliament to encourage the government to level the playing field and give Lincolnshire residents their fair share of national funding.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
