Outcomes

This workshop will enable students to:

  • learn how Fraud can effect them at their age (Fraud, Phishing, Hacking)
  • find out what Money Muling is. (Child Financial Exploitation)
  • talk about and identify what personal details mean in relation to passwords and finances
  • how they can protect themselves from Fraud
Service Description

Money Mules is a growing issue that is effecting young people across the UK and wider.

In 2022, young people under 21 were responsible for 21% of money mule fraud – using their bank accounts illegally.

Students will learn what a money mule is and how they can protect themselves from fraud and also how to manage two factor authentication on their devices, passwords and learn about their personal details.

It will be offered to students aged 9  – 11 years in Years 5 & 6 (KS2) on a school request basis. During the workshops, students will undertake tasks in small groups as well as engage in whole group discussion. Sessions will be delivered by experienced trainers from Lincolnshire Police Youth Engagement Coordinators Team in an age appropriate, fair and inclusive manner.

Sessions have been created to cover some or all of the following areas within the PSHE framework:

H37: Reasons for following and complying with regulations and restrictions (including age restrictions); how they promote personal safety and wellbeing with reference to social media, television programmes, films, games and online gaming.

H42: Strategies for keeping safe online, including how to manage requests for personal information or images of themselves and others; what to do if frightened or worried by something seen or read online and how to report concers, inappropriate content and contact.

R23: About why someone may behave differently online, including pretending to be someone they are not; strategies for recognising risks, harmful content and contact; how to report concerns.

L12: How to make safe, reliable choices from search results.

L16: about how text and images in the media and on social media can be manipulated or invented; strategies to evaluate the reliability of sources and identify misinformation.
