Positive relationships - Stay Safe Partnership

Outcomes

This workshop covers what a relationship is, and the different types of relationships the students have.

Our positive relationships workshop begins by focusing on what a relationship is and who we have relationships with. We explore:

  • the qualities of a good relationship versus what happens when things go wrong
  • how we can resolve our differences whilst respecting other people’s views and opinions

It also delicately covers issues around keeping any secrets that they are uncomfortable with, and some of the dangers of using online and social media.

Next, we move on to introducing children to boundaries and personal space. They will complete an activity which encourages them to think about their own personal boundaries when it comes to their bodies using a traffic light system. The trainer will discuss with the children what consent means and help them understand what it means to give consent.

We finish the session looking at positive self-esteem. It has been found that young people who have positive self-esteem are much more likely to have healthy relationships as they grow older.
